Well for one.....Nirvana is not punk music and for two...if you are so "punk" then you really wouldn't give a crap what everyone thought of you and you would just dress how you want to.

Try mixing in a few punk things with stuff you already have. Get some punk jewelery or punk shoes. Put a little red or black or green in your hair. See how you like the feel of some of the punk style before going all out. And remember: what you dress like has nothing to do with the real you. You can dress preppy and still love punk music and punk ideals.

A poser is someone who is dressing a certain way that they are not naturally intended to dress, or someone who pretends to be who they are not, or someone who thinks that they have to dress a certain way because of their musical tastes. People who listen to Nirvana or AFI do not dress in a specific way...their is no dress code for listening to music. For instance, because you like Nirvana, does not mean that you need to flaunt it to the world by wearing Nirvana logo t-shirts. Or because you like punk music does not mean that you have to dress "punk" so that the world will know your musical taste through your very appearance. The fact that you are even equating your look to you musical taste, or questioning you style suggests that you are not yet certain about who you are. I have always loved Nirvana (by the way, which are not classified as hardcore punk) but never thought about adapting my look to fit the genre of music. That is absurd. Find who you are, dress who you are, and listen to what you enjoy. Simple!

old AFI is hardcore/punk, but nirvana was grunge. you, to me, sound like a poser. i define a poser as a person who acts, dresses, etc., a certain way to impress people or make friends.

also, punks (according to many that i know) don't take that crap from their friends. i don't concider myself to be a punk, or any other stereotype, but if my friends wanted me to dress a certain way, which some of them do, i'd tell them to f*ck off. and they do. quit trying to win the popularity contest of high school, because you won't. dress how you feel, do what you feel. it's what i do, and i've never been happier.

ok well your first problem is, you care too much about what other people think.....who cares what you dress like and listen to? people make it as if there is a rulebook for how you should/shouldn't dress. your friends need to back off and let you dress the way you want to. it's the only way you will be able to express yourself. i say, bring all the clothes you don't like to a consinement shop and get money for them, and then take that money and go out and buy clothes that you like and you feel comfortable wearing. And if other people have issues with the way you want to dress, then screw them, they aren't worth the friendship. Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you!

I think you're a poser too, Nirvana are probably as far away from punk as you can get, just carry on doing what your friends tell you to do, save your self having to think.

Maybe a gradual change will make it seem more like a transformation. Start out with the hair then work your way down, or something to that effect. Be who you are- wear what feels right for you.

Not trying to be mean, but the fact that you even label yourself is moronic. You will realize that the real world doesn't work like this when you get a little older. Wear what you think flatters your body, and what you like & think looks good on you.

Be your own style maven. Start mixing your preppy stuff with your punk stuff. Be creative...use both in your outfits for awhile. Combine preppy shirts and sweaters, with you punky stuff. Layering is very in right now.

Well you can become who you really are and let people THINK you are a poser or continue actually BEING A POSER.
