There is a simple law of stealing by finding. If a person finds something they are obliged to make reasonable efforts to identify the owner. In addition there is a moral requirement on all teachers to behave reasonably and fairly towards all students.

I think that a teacher has every RIGHT to take your belongings if you know that you are not supposed to have it in the classroom or it becomes a distraction to the learning environment. If you bring food into the classroom and you are not supposed to have it, what do you expect the teacher to do? Students have left candy wrappers under their desks, twinky wrappers on the floor and etc in my classroom. After you leave in 90 minutes the teacher as to clean all of that up. Also devices such as C.D. players, I pods, cellphones should either be cut off or put away. (Beyond being a distraction in the classroom it is a sign of BLATANT DISRESPECT)

I as a teacher confiscate these items until you pick it up at the end of the day. If you are a repeat offender then your parents will have to pick it up. This gives me an oportunity to have a conference.

If it was illegal or contraband, like a nudie photo, or a large knife, yes especially. The teacher would probably have to give it back to parent or guardian, if police is not involved.
I hope this helps.
Other things, radios, pens, etc., may be returned upon request. My teachers had a lost box in one corner of the room. That's where odd things were put.
Some schools have a lost box in office.
Good luck...

If the teacher confiscates something in school she should return it to you at the end of term unless it is a weapon or drugs that you bought to the premises.
If you have just left things in the class you should take care of the item better ask her for it or see if it is in lost property in the office.

Get a grip!!

Don"t leave things behind in the classroom, end of problem.

You should show more responsibility instead of looking for another way to make your teachers life even harder than it is.

she can legaly take it. But must not remove the item from school property. They can by law hold that item in school until the end of term by which it must be returned (though only if there is a name on it) otherwise you have to prove that it is yours. If you read the schools rulebook it states what can and can't be brought to school.

As far as I am a where they can, if the item(s) in question are causing problems in or outside of class. Example a mobile phone. But it would be better to check your school rules on such things. (It does help). still not sure ask higher member of staff.

You're talking about taking things you've left by accident rather than confiscating? Either way, the answer is 'no'. These things are your property, end of.

Like what, a pencil, a cd player?
If it is something of importance, I would involve my parents to go to the school and get my property back and to complain.

This is theft under the 1968 Theft Act as long as the teacher has the intention of permanently depriving you of it (i.e. isn't going to give it back).
