You live in the West, you abide by Western laws. It's really that simple. If you want to walk around in a Darth Vader outfit, move to a Muslim country.

Sharia law is Islamic law, based on the principles of the Koran. It isn't directly written in the Koran.

Sharia law covers items like stoning to death adulterous women, and beheading homosexuals. These ritual deaths are normally performed in a public place. In Saudia (our close ally and great friend of Bush's administration) the government delights the crowd every Friday morning in Rijad by burying a few women with bulldozers and slicing a couple of heads off.

I would not want to live in a country under Sharia law; but countries that have that system are entitled to it, and we should not as a nation try to interfere. We do not however, need to have them as 'friendly nations' either.

Well, it cannot be banned in the US, at least where voluntary.

The US Constitution guarantees freedom of religious practice. So, as long as the people practicing the code (including the women) are doing so voluntarily, and as long as no crime of violence occurs (no beatings, etc.) then it's protected religious expression.

We don't get to pick and choose which religions are valid, or which religious behaviors are acceptable. As long as a religious code does not violate secular laws (no violence, no drugs, etc.) then the US govt cannot forbid the practices. Other countries vary.
