Everyone does it differently, and there's no "right" method. Some people start with characters and don't plan at all, and others spend month perfecting their outlines. I would say pretty much everyone agrees that the best way to get good at writing is to read, a LOT.

I would provide links to writing articles, but most of the ones I know of are specific to fantasy, and it sounds like you're doing something else.

You said you already have ideas; have you got a notebook to store them in? You might consider that - putting them on paper will prevent you from forgetting anything, and sometimes can lead to new thoughts.

Check out your local bookstore. They have a lot of books in the reference sections (like "What would You character Do?", "How to Publish your First Novel" etc) And you should find out by doing research if anyone has the same sort of ideas as you. If they do, change it around a little so that it's different. If not, you should start writing. Also, reading other books in your genre can help with writing as well. Good luck!

Personally I just started writing and let the story take me where it will...I actually have no idea how it's going to turn out...
There is no correct way to write a novel...whatever works for you.
Good luck.
