I have a computer that has Windows Xp in it and am wanting to change it over to Linux. Where can I find Linux software online? And how much does it cost?

Linux is actually an opensource system, so you can get it for free. If you're new to Linux, I'd suggest using Mandriva. Theres MandrivaOne, that's like a temporary version, you don't need to precisely install it and a bigger version you have to actually install, check info on both @ Mandriva Linux's website!

There are many Linux distributions available for free download. Two of the most popular are Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/)
and Red Hat (http://www.redhat.com/). There are also many applications available for free download. For example, Open Office is an office suite like Microsoft Office. It's available at http://download.openoffice.org/index.html

If you're new to Linux, I'd suggest a few good resources for information:

you dont have to make it purely Windows XP , you can make it Linux also , just install the linux OS and you press F8 on bootup, then you can select whick operating system you wish to use. But otherwise buy linux offa E-Bay for like 30-80 bucks.

I would go with ubuntu or one of it's variants, kubuntu, or xubuntu. Ubuntu is free and you can download it right off the internet site. However the downloadable version comes in .iso format so you need to have poweriso or alcohol 120% if you want to burn it and use it on your system. Both of these programs can be found on bittorrent.

Ubuntu is easy to use and install.

The free (and legal) way is: go here http://www.ubuntu.com/ download the files, burn them to cd and install.

An option is to order a cd from the same page.

Have fun!
