Just got Broadband on my pc which only has 256mb of RAM and is PC133 ram, i have looked on Froogle.com and there seems to be a few different types in the pictures. Is it just the one type?

My PC is about 4 years old, but I can't afford a new one at the moment as i've just got a house and RAM seems to be the cheapest upgrade.

Effectively, no. PC133 is SDRAM packaged in a DIMM. (See the Wiki page in the sources if you want more information.)

If you're intending to upgrade, assertain how much memory you can install in your PC and then ask for whatever number of megabytes of PC133 that you want prior to handing over your pennies. The vendor will know what you mean.

There should be 2 kinds of PC133 one is for a desktop the big long one and one is the smaller one which is for a laptop and sadly PC133 is cheaper then PC100.. Anyways are you sure that PC133 is the model your computer takes a new RAM would make your computer faster how much RAM you have now?

Do not forget the basics:
Disk Cleanup
Defragment
Remove all unused programs
Virus scan
Spyware/malware scan
Best of luck,

Look at the Pins on the RAM (gold part) they all should look the same. Just make sure when you buy it the person confirms its PC133 and not any other model because old RAM many look similar.

the memory you have is called sd-ram,and pc133 is the speed of the ram(133mhz)
this is the fastest of the sd-ram family, the others being pc100 and pc66
its pretty easy to upgrade sd-ram,however the rule is the older the memory the more expensive it becomes, this is because it becomes alot scarcer and harder to find
go to http://www.crucial.com/,and use the on-line scanner ,this will give you a report which will tell you exactly the right type of memory you need and you can buy it directly from crucial(recommended)
i allways recommend that you double your memory when you upgrade it so in your case you would need a 256mb module, and this wont be too expensive, and you will see a dramatic speed increase in your system
good luck

oh ya! it is just like using more than one external hard drive at once (not exactly the same but similar) you wont mess anything up...you might even increase the speed a bit i love reading how the people that KNOW what they are talkin about say YES and the others say NO. the people that are saying NO are probably NOT thinking about a RAM. a RAM is a, in deffenition, a Random Access Memory. MEMORY!!! ACCESS! it will access different parts of the memory randomly (HENCE THE NAME!) at different times to find or use more space. it is like taking a USB splitter, then plugging in about 20-30 flash drives. just without that much power usage

This site has a very interesting tool:

http://www.crucial.com/index.asp?cpe=AFC-2D4S68503543

You enter your computer model, and it will tell you what type of Ram you need. Even if you don't buy from them, you can take the information and go somewhere else.

Just be sure how much RAM your computer can support before you go out and buy some. Remember that your computer will generally run at its best if it has two RAM pieces of the same value (ie if you want 512 MBs, have one 256 MB and one 256 MB. )

pc133 tell you the speed on the memory, and the 256mb tells you that you have 256 mega bytes on ram, any number after the pc represents the speed on the memory

FYI if you want more ram you have to have a better motherboard, otherwise the 1 gig of ram you just bought will only be running at half a gig since the motherboard cant handle the new high amount. but you can buy up to a 1gig stick of RAM

I am guessing if your PC is about 4 years old and is a desktop it is using SDRAM and if it is a laptop it is using sodimms. EIther way if you open it up and take the rame out and take it to a computer shop they will be able to match it for you or if you have a make and model of your PC you can look it up on the manufacturers website.

Yes there are different kinds. SDRAM, DDR, DDR2, Rambus (RDRAM) just to name a few. I added a couple of links below to help you find which one you need.

The good news is, if you are running XP on that machine with 256MB of RAM, more RAM will definitely help.

i would just go buy more ram you can get it for about $20 or so at any comptuer store especially if you have xp if you dont' do a lot 256 is ok but usually it's better to have at least 512 because windows it self takes up 128
