I just wanted to say to all those people that say your too young, its your own decision. These people dont know you or your personal situation I think its really harsh when people judge you on age. I am 19 and trying for a baby with my husband and we own our house and both have good jobs and are physically mentally and emotionally ready for the many challenges of having a baby. You cant say that of some 30 year olds. We have also been trying for a year with no sucess and have simillar problems witgh my periods. My doctor was also less than useless i would ditch him. Goodluck and keep your chin up im sending baby dust your way.

Just in response to the people judging you based on your age - I can tell them I graduated from university at age 20 - and I did a 3 year degree. So just because you are young doesn't mean you are not ready. Although everyone is different and MANY people are not ready to have a baby at 20 - I hope you truly are if since you are trying to.
Why won't your doctor test you? You left that out and I think that is an important aspect of this question. If you truly think he is unjust in why he will not test you then find another doctor.

Honestly, I'd probably find another doctor. If your periods are terrible and you can't conceive after a year of trying, there may be something going on. You're young, which may be why your doctor didn't pursue it--s/he probably figured you have all the time in the world. But just to be sure that everything checks out and you don't have endometriosis or some other problem, I'd find a good OB/GYN--not a GP or family practitioner. If you OB/GYN thinks there might be trouble based on your health history and symptoms, you can go from there.
Don't panic, though--lots of women take more than a year to conceive. It doesn't mean you're infertile, so don't stress yourself out by jumping to conclusions!

It can take a while to get pregnant after coming off of birth control. You can do things like eat healthy, balanced diet, (to prepare your body) buy an ovulation kit, and have fun trying. If it still is a problem, then go back to your doctor. Not everyone gets pregnant so easily. There are a lot of people who have to really work at it. Don't get discouraged.

I had problems w/ period after taking b/c but I was a bit off before.. now I don't have them at all w/out taking hormones to make me ovulate. You totally could have had an early miscarriage. Get a different doctor. Sounds like yours is crazy. You should be checked for infertility. I have poly cystic ovaries... they think... and there are meds to help you with that! Please see a specialist if you can. Best of luck.... everyone in my family got pregnant easy too.

The best thing for you to do is speak to a ob/gyn. When you take birth Control for a long time in can make you infertile.I am having fertility problems myself and the ob/gyn is very helpful so far. An ob/gyn can give you test to find out if it can be fixed or if they is something to help you conceive. Good Luck

When I was pregnant with my son I took 4 pregancy test and they all came out negative even a blood test. But I felt something in my body that was why I kept on insisting to have pregnancy tests done over and over till finally that last test came out positive.
Dont' worry if your not pregnant just keep trying some of us are just slow. After I had my son I wasn't taking care of myself and haven't gotten pregnant my son's 5.

It is said that after being on birth control for a long period of time it can take two to three years for your body to let you get pregnant. All I can suggest is that you do things like track when your ovulating.

Do the temperature taking method. Every morning before you put anything in your mouth and before you get out of bed, take your temperature. The day you ovulate, there will be a big change in your temp. That is the day you can get pregnant. Try it....I tried for a year to get pregnant, and couldn't till I did the temperature chart. Good luck.......

Please, if you are only 20, wait, do not be so anxious to have children. Your life will never be the same. Having children is not as easy as it looks or sounds, and is an extremely expensive responsibility.
When you are meant to get pregnant, it will happen. You were taking artificial hormones for over 6 years. It may take more than just a year for your body to be chemically well balanced again.
