Look, I know that you are scared but I have really great news!!! I am 21 years old. Ok, I started my period when I was 9-actually on my 9th birthday! I wouldn't put a tampon in for so long because of the same reason! I was so scared---The best thing to do is go and get this: the PLAYTEX LIGHTS!!! they are really small and they have plastic applicators which does make a difference. Another thing to remember is once you put it in, you don't fill it!!! You have to understand this, all you are doing is pushing a plastic applicator with cotton in it up a "canal"(blocking blood), once you push the bottom of the applicator from the bottom up and pull the plastic part out, you will have a string, you will not even notice that string or the tampon and every 4 hours, when you first start, pull that string out, wipe and re-apply another tampon. Later you can wait longer. Honestly do you really think that women walk around feeling discomfort all the time??? We have other problems and your period should always be the least of those. Another thing to remember: unless you want to where pads that make you feel like you are wearing diapers and wondering if you will bleed through, or even hear it when you walk I would really consider going for it. Remember 90% of women wear tampons, it's a natural thing. You will have more discomfort and problems from men than a tampon!!! If you have any more questions or need anything you can e-mail me @ a_d_dubose@yahoo.com or sonnygirl0303@yahoo.com. And I could even give you my number if you'd like. ENJOY your life!

First time it would be best to use an applicator one, and try not to tense up or it will be more difficult. Try first time after a bath when you are relaxed anyway, you should follow the instructions in the pack which tell you to put one foot on the bath or toilet. It does really make it easier.

It will feel a little strange at first but once it's in you should be able to forget it's there - you shouldn't feel it - if you do, it has been put in wrong, at a wrong angle and you should remove it and try another one. Don't aim straight up aim in a diagonal towards the small of your back.

It can feel uncomfortable taking it out if you are not using the right abosrbency (and this bit is gross) (eg if you are using too high an absorbency and it is not completely wet when it comes out) but the discomfort will only last a second and I would say that once you have used one a few times it's definitely worth the effort and you won't feel a thing.

It can be if your a virgin still. If not, it may be uncomfortable if your dry, try using lubrication when inserting the tampon. After a few times you will get used to the feel and wont even know your wearing one. My first experience was a lil uncomforatable.
Try the thin ones not the ones made for heavy duty periods.

I use mostly Maxi pads now, I know they are more of a mess, but they have less of a chance of causing ovarian/cervix cancer like long use of Tampons may.

No it doesn't hurt at all. YOu need to use one with an applicator as they are the easiest ones to use and use the lowest absorbancy as well for you flow. Normally the medium one would be a good one to start with or the lite if your flow is very light. They are so easy to insert honestly and once you've done it once its even easier. Good luck - I remember my first time but then they didn't have applicator ones and I had to stick my finger right up and worried it wasn't in properly etc... An applicator one can only go in the right amount so won't fall out!!!!

no i don't think it hurts anyway. although i will admit that the first time i did it it hurt a bit just because i put it in wrong. just follow the instructions on the box and it won't hurt *its really pretty self explanitory but i understand its kinda scary the first time you use one* but i was soooo happy to not feel like i was wearing a diaper or bleeding on myself that i use tampons most of the time *i still use pads though just to be safe* make sure you read the information on toxic shock syndrom. *its hard to get it but it does happen if you leave your tampon in to long *ie more then 5-8 hours* just read the information in the box and i think you will be ok. besides its a confidence boost to not worry if your pad can be seen through your jeans or worry about a leak.

It all depends on the female using them. it will be uncomfortable your first time just because your not use to having something placed in your Virgina and if your a virgin it will be uncomfortable. there is also the factor of your body some females have female problems which prohibit them from using tampons. your best bet is to try them out see if the discomfort gets better as you get use to them, if not see your doctor and ask why is is painful when using them. I PERSONALLY AM ONE OF THEM FEMALES THAT COULD NOT USE THEM. good luck and god bless

no it shouldnt hurt but it all depends on if you put it in right. It will feel uncomfortable if it isnt in far enough or if it is too big for you. Just try to pick the right size and insert correctly.

If you have never had sex it might hurt puting it in. If you have had sex, Im sure your fine. Just go to the store and buy a smaller size and try that. If it doesn't hurt then your ok. Then you can try one size bigger. If you Get the Tampax brand, get the yellow ones. Orange are the biggest. Don't get those!!
Good Luck!!

It should not hurt, if it does then you are putting it in wrong. Read the instructions carefully. Relax dont get tense, and is should go in well. (I prerfer to use pads because tampon tend to cause alot of Urinary Tract Infection)

It might be until you learn to get it in the right way. Make sure you are using the smallest ones you can get. They make them for teens and they are very slender. Once you get it in right, you shouldn't feel it in there at all. That's how you know. You have to push it in all the way.
