Players on AHL contracts earn on average about $55,000 a season.

According to a few fans, the pay for the SPHL is around $25,000 a year.

According to another fan, the average ECHL player in 1999 made roughly $412.00 a week. That amounts to about $21,424.00 a year.

Here is a link to a break-down of the salary structure for minor leagues during the 98-99 season: http://www.hockeyzoneplus.com/$minor_e.htm

Typically for an AHL level player they make between $25,000 and $40,000 per year(although some free agent younger players can be paid less). Some of the higher draft picks and the occasional foreign player make more but that is paid by the NHL club that owns them. There are a few out there that make up to around 125,000, these tend to be snipers that arent quality NHL material and are older (i.e. one dimensional players that either cant skate well, cant play defense,etc.). Sometimes teams will sign an older defenceman to these higher dollar contracts so they can teach positioning to the younger D. These players would be the ones that are owned by the minor league club usually, although some NHL clubs will sign them to a 2-way deal (one amount if they get called up, a lesser amount if they play with the minor league club). They sign these guys to help develop offensive skill players they want to bring along as scorers. Lower minors players are usually paid on a per game basis, they tend to average between $100.00 and $400.00 per game and usually have part time jobs with one of the teams local sponsers unless they have signed an entry level deal with an NHL club. The NHL club usually will give them a little more so they dont have to take the part time job and can concentrate solely on improving their game.

They are paid differently depending on their performance, position, and number of games played, qualifications, contracts and terms of agreement for their work. An ECHL rookie for example is paid $325 per week. Some average minor league players can make about $400,000 per year up to even a million depending on their contracts. For example, the AHL boasts an average player salary of about $61,000 +. For minor league AHL player salaries is 10% of the NHL player salary. Aside from salaries, they are also given bonuses and special allowances.

vip hockeys answer is right on, but I wanted to add that some of these players have been drafted by NHL teams & have contracts so they are paid higher salaries even if less skilled than other players on the team.

Probably around $5,000 a month. They also get room, and board, per diem, for free when the travel. So about $60 grand a year. I think the NHL league minimum is $200,000.00 a year.
