like the one in Kansas City that's given away 1.3 million dollars, what would you look for in potential "givees" My kids and I want to do this on a much smaller scale, and want to give it to someone who really needs it. What kind of person would you look for, and why?

What a sweet idea and what a can of potential worms you are about to open! This is the time of year when every deviant who wants something for nothing poses as a needy person and registers at stores, churches and libraries for free gifts, clothes and food. Every organization is susceptible to the freeloaders, so if I were you, I would bypass them and go out on my own and find someone in my own neighborhood who is truly needy - perhaps an elderly person, or a single Mom, then package everything up and put it where the family can find it. I applaud your desire to teach your children the greatest gift of all - love and generosity! God bless and happy holidays!

What I have done in the past since I don't have millions of dollars to give away is find a single mother with young children through DES who's doing everything she can to make ends meet and not trying to live off of our welfare system and have Santa anonymously make sure that family has a Christmas from tree to turkey and all the gifts in between. A couple of firefighter friends and I went in on this one family together even hung lights outside a house one year in particular along with the tree and gifts but I think (not 100% sure yet) this year, I might do something with a family that lost their mom or dad in Iraq and have Santa anonymously make sure that they have a Christmas this year.

I would look for someone that has nothing but gives everything they have anyways. For example, someone who is poor but will go and serve hot meals to the homeless.
