this is something i have always been interested in doing but have no idea of the best way to go about it

If you really are committed you can do a course in youthwork. Or do what i did work voluntarily and wait for a job to come up within the service and apply then. It is great fun and really fulfilling. Goodluck.

Contact your local Council as they will have Youth Workers that they employ and could have vacancies. alternatively they could advise you on the qualifications you would need. They may even let you volunteer with one of their projects whilst you train.
Aim for becoming a qualified Leader-in-Charge as its better money. Try and get other smaller qualifications/training that will help you e.g. 1st aid, H&S. If you do sports try and become a coach or trainer. Look online and order a youth work magazine to be aware of upcoming policies and practices etc. Volunteer, help is always needed & appreciated!
