I have a fresh water (black finned shark) Ive had him for over 2 months now. He has developed an weird skin disease. It looks like a clear mucus like patches and strands from his body. He doesnt want to eat much. How can I treat my shark, before he dies. Or is it too late? Will my other fish catch it? Please help..

Raise the temperature of the tank to about 82F then make 40-50% water changes for a couple weeks trhen 20% water changes weekly. Go to Walmart or a pet store and get Melafix and Primafix and use them together to treat the tanka ccording to the directiosn adn the problem will go away and the fish will improve in no time

It sounds to me like it's been a long time since you've done a regular (weekly) partial (25-30%) water change and the fish is suffering from VERY poor water quality. That is typically what a fish looks like with very high levels of ammonia.

You need to do an immediate 50% water change and then 25% a day for 3-4 days. Melafix and Pimafix should be added to the tank according to directions on the bottles and to the water that you add during the water changes.

You should invest in an ammonia test kit and use it about once a week until your problem is solved.

Good luck!

tiki, you are right on about the people with no clue. They all think everything is ich.

It sounds like ICK. I would take the fish into a pet store (in water) and they should tell you what it is for sure!
If one fish is sick then you should treat all of them.
It shouldn't be too late but treat your fish asap.
I hope this helps.

It may be an algae build-up. I would maybe check your filter (if you have one), buy a better one, or manually clean the aquarium.
