I tend to have frequent headaches and I don't want to take advil or tylenol everytime I have one. Is there any home remedies out there to get some relief?

I find the thing that helps me is a bowl of steam with vicks in it, or you can buy a stick roller from boots, which you rub over your forehead, works a treat, or massaging the back of your neck and temples.

I would look into chiropractic care. I used to get migraine headaches quite often and I haven't had a bad headache for about 8 years. Chiropractic is safe and natural. If you do have a headache your body is giving you a warning sign that something is wrong. I would get it checked out. Many headaches are due to poor posture, stress or a chemical/food problem. A chiropractor would help you figure out which type it is and help you find a natural remedy.

I suffer from those as well. Actually was seeing a neurologist for awhile it was that common and bad. Had me on an antidepressant used for chronic pain, as well as a souped up Tylenol that had a vaso-constricter, mild sedative, and acetaminophen. Actually that worked very well for me, but was taking a bunch of them. It is best to try to stay away from taking Tylenol or such too often. You can actually cause a headache from not taking those, kind of a dependency on them/withdrawal. One thing to try, either an ice pack or heating pad/bottle on your neck. Sometimes that helps. I also use ibuprofen instead of Tylenol/acetaminophen. (That's not natural though lol).

Here's a link, under H is headaches. Gives lots of possible causes, at the bottom has some folk/natural remedies for headaches. I haven't tried any yet though. Suppose treatment would depend on what kind of headache it is, and what the likely cause is. Good luck!

If they're not stress related (massage the area between your thumb & forefinger). You need to find out why you get these headaches. Sometimes where the pain is may be your first clue, like if it's sinus trouble. Some you can fix easily if they're caused by skipping meals or dehydration. Some time you may have to reach for a pain reliever but be careful you don't get used to them or you could begin to get rebound headaches, course that's probably why you don't want to take them ... Good luck.

Natural ways:

Chiropractic care (great for Headaches)
Acupuncture (also very good)
Calcium and Magnesium
Coenzyme Q10
Diet (the food we eat is poison and is killing us faster)
Posture (causes a lot)

Do not take meds and an MD does not know what to do besides give meds. All they do is mask the pain.

IF you are older, check to see if you are hypertensive, then change your diet. Hypertensive meds will destroy your liver, but so will tylenol.

stop taking advil and tylenol -- they aren't good for you! it is important to figure out what kind of headaches you get. most headaches that are serious are called vascular headaches and can be divided into tension, migraine, and cluster.
each has different symptoms.

in general you can increase you water intake -- you should be drinking about a gallon of water a day -- just water -- even juice is different and your body processes it differently.

in vitamins you canincrease you b complex and calcium/magnesium suppliments. i get severe headaches and take 5-htp and melatonin nightly.

headaches respond to stimulants -- try a cup of strong coffee or some chocolate. use chocolate that is as unprocessed as possible. bakers chocolate or sweet chocolate bars that are made to be put in hot chocolate are both much better than chocolate bars made to eat as candy -- they are full of other stuff. both of these could be possible headache triggers for you depending on what kind of headaches you have. it is important to figure out what kind of headache it is. -- heres a start page on wikipedia.

Take your thumb and index finger, place them in the skin area between the index and thumb of the opposite hand, squeeze them together, to pinch the area, try this with both sides, hold for a few moments and you can feel the headache go away. This is an acupressure spot and works very well generally.

Headaches can be caused by a number of things, from intracranial pressure, forward head posture, problems of the cervical spine, neuromuscular reflexes causing referred pain, ect. Basically your body is telling you something and you need to find out what it is and have the problem taken care of! The best thing you could do is see a chiropractor for this problem. They have the highest success rate for reducing the number and frequency of headaches.
Good luck!

I used to get SEVERE migraines until I tried this. It's self-hypnotization. First, close your eyes and picture the color orange. Then use your memory and think of the smell of an orange. I even went a step further and imagined I felt the feeling of peeling an orange, you know, the way it feels under your fingernails, and how it sprays the juice when you first stick your thumb into it? Try it a couple of times with the whole process, and soon your body will respond nearly immediately with just the thought...

try going to your local health food store and buy a bottle of peppermint oil. rub a very little bit of this on your temples - it works wonders. the only problem that i have is my eyes sting for a little while if i use too much but the headache is gone -so its worth it
