My cousin pierced her cartilage by herself the other day and I immediately wanted her to do mine. I am having second thoughs about it though. She said it "hardly hurt at all" but I'm not much for pain, especially if I can avoid it by getting the piercing professionly done. Problem is, Mother doesn't want me to have a piercing in my cartilage. When answering, try to tackle these questions.

1. How badly will it hurt? [possibly use scale from 1 to 10]
2. What are the chances of it getting infected?
3. Any tips for piercing tips? Anything I should definitely do?

don't have your cousin do it. try to convince your mom to let you get one. if she says yes, then get one done professionally. if she says no, then don't get one at all. wait until you're old enough! if your cousin does it, your mom will just make you take it out.

now, to answer your questions:
1. it will hurt like a 7, i think.
2. infection if your cousin does it, about 75-85%. if a pro does it, 90%.
3. i think i gave you all the tips you need above--^

Cartilage piercing is much more painful than soft tissue piercing as all my friends who have had both done tell me.

If you're doing yourself then there is quite a high rish of infection. This in most cases is a minor infection - pus discharge which clears up in a week after washing with salt water but people do die from infected piercingd and I suspect the risk is much higher if it is not done professionally with sterilised instruments.

If I was you, I'd try to talk my mother round and get it done professionally, if you really want it done.

Get it professionally done. I don't have mine done but I hear it hurts pretty bad (I wouldn't know on a scale). The chances of getting infected are much higher if you do it yourself. Plus, think about what you would do if you messed it up. What if the hole was placed wrong or you angled the needle incorrectly- you can't exactly start over. Professionals know what they are doing. the chance of infection or a mistake is just not worth it! self-piercings are a bad idea!
Plus it really shouldn't cost much more to get it professionally done! Claires does the piercing for free if you buy the jewelery.

1.) A few yrs. ago I got mine peirced professionally. On a scale of 1-10, I say it hurt like a 5.
2.) However, the next day it was infected. It hurt to even sleep with a sheet over my head! I took it out a few days later and never put it back in.
3.) I have pierced my ear lobe twice by myself with no pain. I used peroxide and a thumb tack! And a lot pf patience. It didn't hurt nearly as bad as my cartilidge did professionally. Good luck :)

Just don't do it yourself. If you can't get parental permission, just wait.
1. It doesn't hurt bad. Although after, it hurts for like 4 months.
2. Very high chances of infection up on your cartilage, especially if done at home. You'll have to clean it multiple times a day.
3. No, don't do it til you are old enough to get it done professionally.

Listen to your MOM!!

There have been reports of people dying from piercing themselves and getting infections. Going to a reputable professional piercer will ensure that this will not happen. The price of doing it yourself is not worth the potential cost of it. It's going to hurt no matter what you do, but going professional will probably minimize the pain because there's a much smaller chance of a screw up

DON'T DO IT.

If you have to have a piercing, have someone who knows what they're doing do it for you. If the health and safety arguments you see here aren't enough to convince you, then think of this: You've just poked a big bloody hole through your ear, it hurts like a *****, you've got blood on your best blouse, your hands are shaking, your eyes are tearing, and now you're about to do the same thing to the other ear. How will you even be able to see if you've got it at the same height as the first one? Are you going to walk around forever with one earring hanging lower than the other? At least a pro will be able to get them level for you.

I didn't think that it hurt that bad, my mom pierced mine for me with a needle......i would say it probably hurt about a 3?

it won't get infected as long as you steralize the needle, soak it in alcohol, and you have to burn the tip of it....ask your friend how to do it she'll explain

tips: make sure that you freeze your ear, you have to numb it so that you won't feel anything. then it will be sure not to hurt. i would freeze it with ice for about 45 minutes and then when she starts to pierce it make sure you keep the ice on it.....and then clean your ear atleast 3 times a day with alcohol to keep from infection.

good luck! and be safe!

Your going to have to make the hole bigger over time. Use a bigger piece of jewelry every so often till the hole expands. Do this and eventually u will b able to put whatever size jewelry u want in it.
