I'm 42 years old with 8.5 year old and 3.5 year old. I was DONE with kids because of my age and because I had 2 high risk pregnancies and 1 miscarriage. I've been nauseous for 1 week which subsides with food. I have sensitive nipples and have been lactating a small amount. It feels like my uterus is hardening. I feel PREGNANT! But the pregnancy test is negative. If I am not pregnant what on earth is going on? I've read about psychosomatic pregnancy, but can't imagine that since pregnancy has just not been on my mind: either the extreme desire to get pregnant or the extreme desire not to get pregnant. It just hasn't been on my mind at all. So, if I am not pregnant, what is going on? I really appreciate your ideas because I want to know why my body is going berserk! Thanks!

Just to follow up: I have had no discernable periods since I've had the IUD put in 3.5 years ago. AND If I am pregnant GREAT! If I am not pregnant GREAT! I'm just hoping for healthy either way. My sister had an IUD baby 22 years ago. My doc checked the placement of my IUD 6 months ago. And last, but NOT LEAST, I won't be getting my tubes tied, my dear hubby will be getting snipped (or neutered, ha ha!) Thanks for all replies!!

it would be a good idea to see a doctor for a thorough exam, given your symptoms.

typically your uterus doesn't harden until you are well into the second trimester. have you missed a period?

although everyone is different, morning sickness typically starts at 8 weeks.

Certainly sounds like you are pregnant. Maybe you took the test too soon. My last child who is now 19 was conceived when I thought I had an IUD. I read up on this and some babies are born with the IUD device implanted in their skin somewhere. That was what I was most worried about. Apparently though my IUD was dislodged and was lost. If you are not pregnant all the signs you are talking about would have to be hormonal, so maybe you are getting early symptoms of menopause. I think you are too young for that, but some women do go through menopause when they are younger. I think the psychosomatic thing happens to very few women and because you dont want to get pregnant I couldnt imagine that to be the case. Maybe your best option would be to go see your doctor and have a blood test. A blood test will tell for sure if you are or are not pregnant. At least this way you will know sooner and not have to wait do do a second or third pregnancy test. You could also kill two birds with the one stone because if you find out you are not pregnant then you could discuss your symptoms with your doctor who may be better equipped to answer your questions.

I hope it turns out the way you want it to. Whatever it is, dont freak, it wont change what is happening. Just go get the test and start ruling out all possibilities.

Chance of pregnancy on the newer versions of IUD's are 0.1% and sterilization and it failure rate is 0.5%. I seem to see many women while on the IUd have al the pregnancy symtoms but not be pregnant. If you trully where pregnant and far along enough to have hardning of the stomach the you would def have a Positive on the HCG test

Well, I don't wanna scare you but all 3 of my mom's pregnancies were while she had an IUD. So, if you haven't reached menopause yet you could be pg. How late is your period? Maybe you tested too early? Could be those be signs of menopause? sorry I can't be of anymore help. I hope everything is well and you are not pg. Good luck

You might be pregnant. I got pregnant with an IUD. The doctor pulled it out and said, I got it. The nurse asked, Got what? The doctor said her IUD. I was 9 months pregnant... The nurse was rather shocked. My first two pregnancy tests said not pregnant, too. My child was fine, thank goodness.......Good luck......
