Yes they can fly, their main flight muscle the pectoralis major is composed of white muscle tissue this type of muscle is used for power and bursts of energy rather than endurance, by comparison turkeys use their legs a lot and need endurance, so the type of muscle found in legs is composed of red muscle tissue which is made for endurance . For a bird that size they can take off pretty fast but they usually don't fly to long, tough under certain circumstances they have been known to surprise people by flying over bodies of water. Weighing up to 15 kg (usually closer to 10 kg), the wild turkey is the heavy weigh champ of flighted birds.

Wild turkeys can fly, but they don't fly like songbirds fly. They fly from the ground to tree limbs, or short distances near the ground from here to there.

Only enough to get out of the way of my car as I come around the corner. Two out of the eight in the road, about landed on my roof because they were almost too heavy to fly out of the way.

Yes. I have seen them fly up to 100 yards. This was a nesting hen that was flushed from her nest. As a rule they won't fly more than they need to escape a threat.
