1. It's a Wonderful Life- You can't go wrong with that one. It has everything you need- a sympathetic main character, romance, comedy, drama, and an angel!! I love it so much.

2. A Christmas Story- I'm such a freak for this movie. When TNT plays it over and over again on Christmas every year, I tend to watch it about 3 or 4 times in the same day! I just think it is hilarious, and everyone can identify with really wanting a gift the way Ralphie wanted the Red Ryder gun. Also, the part where he beats the be-Jesus out of the bully is priceless!

3. Love Actually- This is a "new classic" for me- I just think it's great the way each character has their own little subplot, and it's such a terrific cast. Also, I love how even though it's set at Christmastime, it is a fantastic romantic comedy for really any time of the year.

4. Home Alone- It brings me back to when I was about 10 and I saw this movie in the theater about 4 times with my little brother. It's a little far-fetched, now that I watch it as an adult, but I still think it is a lot of fun, and it makes me cry every time when he comes out and sees his mom on Christmas morning.

5. Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown/ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I combined these two because they're only 30 minutes long each, and because when I was a kid, they used to show them back to back on the same night every year. In the Charlie Brown movie, I appreciate the highbrow, dry humor coming out of these little cartoon kids' mouths, and I also think it's a beautiful message about how Christmas is about so much more than all the commercialism.
The Grinch is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss characters, and the original cartoon version is still a masterpiece, even after all these years. The part where he sees all the Whos singing even after their Christmas has been stolen, causing his heart to grow three times in size, still makes me well up every year. It's another great message about how Christmas is about love, not presents. (Don't bother with the Jim Carrey version- it's sort of crappy)

Have a happy holliday season!!!!!

P.S. You should also check out the old Claymation Christmas movies like Rudolph, Year Without a Santa Claus, Here Comes Santa Claus, and the cartoon version of Frosty the Snowman. They're all only 30 min. long, and even though the graphics are a lot more primitive than kids today are used to, I think they're really great specials for the kids. They don't make 'em like they used to!
