A police officer was killed in BG Kentucky last week. At his funeral was a uniformed police officer riding backwards on a horse. I understand the boot of the fallen officer to be placed in the sturips but I don't understand the rider. Can anyone explain the significancy of the rider being backwards??

I think it represents him looking back and never being able to do his job again or the uniformed police officer is the fallen police officer saying farewell to his comrades.
