I have a desktop that does not have wireless capability so I will need to physically plug it into the router. However my new notebook computer will have wireless capability that I'd like to take advantage of. Is there a device I can buy that will let me be able to do this? Thanks!

What you need is a wireless router. Despite the name, "wireless" they do have Ethernet ports on them to connect your desktop as well. The majority of the ones you will find have 4 Ethernet ports on them. That will handle what you want to do.
