Did not take the written part, how important is it to know how to take the test?

It means that the student was not familiar enough with the format of the test, and does not have strong test-taking skills. It also means the student should retake the ACT, and consider taking the SAT, as many students find one test easier than another. Finally, it means that the student will really benefit from a test preparation class. With a 3.0, the student should NOT settle for being below median, and get some help so s/he can show off to the schools of choice.

16 Act Score

16 is not a good ACT score. It's lower than even the NCAA minimum standards for athletes. It's not the end of the world, though. Check what requirements the colleges you are interested have. Some are quite picky; others aren't. You can take the ACT any number of times. Scores don't generally go up all that much, but especially if there were outside factors when you took it the first time, they can go up. Even raising your score a couple of points to 18 could make the difference in admission.

If you still don't get the score your desired college wants, consider starting off at a community college and then transferring. Most colleges will accept an associate degree from a community college as meeting all general education requirements.

it really doesn't mean that much

i was a 2.10 GPA student and got a 26 in my ACT, but my sister was a 3.2 GPA and only got a 17. Some people are just better at taking standardized tests than others, however not all is lost. There are a lot of good books out there to help you increase your ACT score.

sorry to say, ACT of 16 and a GPA of 2.2 isn't going to get you into any four year college. 16 on the ACT is very low. You are going to be better off going to a community college. You may find a four year college work overwhelming

It's pretty low BUT if you are a junior now you do have time to make things better. You can retake your ACTs this fall. I would recommend finding a good tutor to help you with your classes, and with ACT prep over the summer.

As usual, someone is giving an answer which is total BS. The average ACT score is not 16, it is 21. You can easily check this online.

You need to get a book or do a little training course on HOW to take the test. That will definitely help you to get a score that matches up better with your grades. On the other hand, 3.0 is not a great GPA so maybe a 16 does match your grades. The average GPS for college bound HS students in the USA is closer to 3.4. So you could stand to focus a bit more on your school work, and especially science, because it is required at just about every college.
