I saw the video. Maybe he was ticked off at being interrupted. During the shouting match, he was called a cracker. Does that make the other guy a racist as well?

Sounds like a heated argument. I'd like to know why white people aren't allowed to say certain words and others can.
Isn't that limiting white people's freedom of speech? I can be called a honkey, whitey, cracker or whatever and I'm not supposed to get upset about it.

Why is everyone so touchy? Jeez.

We should be worrying about terrorists or atomic bombs from dictators, not this silly stuff.

I doubt he is a true racist seeing how occasional black cast members joined Seinfeld (notably the fast talking lawyer, remember him?) I admit I did not see the video of Michael Richards going off on the heckler. However, I have read it was a shouting match where Kramer used several instances of profane racist language and the effect on the audience was shocking. Later Kramer did apologize and Seinfeld too supported his friend and said Michael Richards surely feels bad. Think about the pressure on Michael Richards after the relative success of Jerry Seinfeld in light of a TV show spun around the notion of a stand-up comic becoming successful.

i agree somewhat, but that comment about them being hung over 50 years ago went too far, i can understand racist splurs in comedy but to go that far and say something like that and turn around and call them the n word is awful. And yes they called the c word but i mean look at what they had to stand up against, he was going on and on! I was in total shock, I hope he was drunk because i was fan, but I am African American, but he did apologize but so did America for slavery so will I forgive, of course, but will I forget, hell no unless he was drunk or high, and if that wasn't the case, I'll never watch a show of his again...

Umm.. Yeah. Like it has been said.. "You only say what you have thought before..." If a boyfriend, frustrated at his girlfriend threatens to hog-tie her and burn her alive. Thats a bit disturbing and him just saying that "it just came out because he was angry" won't really cover it. Whether or not he has abused women in the past is not up for question. That guy is creepy.

This guy, Michael Richards may not be an avowed lifetime Ku Ku Klan Member (Yes I said Ku Ku on purpose) or may have killed some innocent pre-schooler in cold blood with a rusty screwdiver like the aforementioned individuals but he has said something that he can't take back and it is not as easy as sweeping it under the rug.

In a society that we say these things don't exist and minorities are "over-sensitive" and then this guy when slightly rattled damn near starts into a Nazi Deathmarch. It is creepy what lies beneath the surface of people and it is disturbing to see all of the people on this thread taking up for him talking about being stressed.

That type of behavior is just way past excusable. Calling the hecklers morons, idotic, fat, ugly, retarded is OK. Especially if they started it but that was like burning puppies alive because you had a bad day. Not cool under any circumstances. Not excusable without a public apology. He needs to publicly apologize.

I understand that AFTER he started the racial comments that he was called a name in response and then he took it a step higher. He wasn't called a name first and then reponded and he was heckled for being a racist.

Theres a cause and effect, especially with minorities. Words and pride matter more than what is or what is not illegal. It is immoral and people deserve dignity. If you violate the dignity of someone from a minority group you can expect to have a heated physical confrontation probably including stitches if you are lucky. You can't hide behind the law all of the time. Just because something is not against the law does not mean it is not wrong. Ethics play a part in this. Even a fellow comedian slated for later that night said he went too far so it is not just the patrons who it was aimed at being over-sensitive. Its like a known child-molester hanging at the local park but because of a loophole in the law he can legally be at this park interacting with children for 21 days while his case is processed. Do you shoo him off (and beat him into a pulp) or do you let him exercise his right to go where he pleases? I would take a bat and help him to change his mind about being around my kids law or no law. Michael was wrong, against the law or not.

I don't care if you make comments about it being "against the law" but thats how I feel. OJ Simpson was cleared and legally he is innocent but half of America still hates him. He probably did it but because he was legally cleared does not make people stop wanting to take out some vigilante justice. I am just asking for an apology, is that too much? Thats like Katie Couric disagreeing withsomeone and he calls ber a bit@# on the air. Its not illegal and he did not touch her but he was 1000% past wrong.

Racism isn't illegal.

He's a performer, and when you go to a show you don't try to make someone else's show about you.

He's not a murderer, a sex-offender and no one's opportunities were comprimised due to one comic's statements.

I personally think people who show up to heckle performers should be hung upside-down from the lighting rig regardless of skin color.

I don't think so I think he was just upset about what they said to him so he just got mad and said the wrong thing. In one of the episodes in the seinfeld show he dated a black girl in the show.

I do not think he is seriously a racist, but he should not have said some of the things he said.
