Since having my second child 18 months ago, I have been having the depo injection. It has stopped my periods, which is the good thing, but I have no sex drive anymore. We have had sex about 5 times in the last 18 months. We don't even talk about it anymore. Does anybody else have the same side effect as me? The doctor says I can only stay on it for a maximum of 2 years as it starts to thin your blood, then you have to come off it for 1 year before going back to it. Maybe that may bring our sex life back....

Sadly.. it does have this effect... my wife and I struggled for a while... didn't speak... spilt up... then started to speak... she stopped with the injections.. we got back together.. I had a vasectomy [drastic].. sex life took off again and is now beter than ever..

Loss of sex-drive is an awful side effect of a quite wonderful contraceptive.. is it worth the possible damage to your relationship for the lack of periods? Only you can answer that!

Personally I would talk about it with your partner and your doctor and see what alternatives you have..

Good luck

I have been on the depo shot for 4 years and I too have not had a period in that time. I have not lost my drive for sex. It may not be the shot, it could be due to the birth of your child. I had no sex drive for almost 2 years after having my child. My obgyn told me that the best thing to do is to keep a journal and write in it everything that I feel after having sex.

Yeah happened to me too, but I thought it was because I put on over a stone in weight & I didnt feel very attractive. I came off the injection and went on the mini-pill instead & things got a lot better very quickly ;-) Depo just doesnt suit some people, whats the point of taking it if it stops you wanting sex xx

I have been on the depo for 5 years without a break. I have had no problems. My sex drive is good. Perhaps it's due to the fact you have had a second child? I can't comment on that as I have no children myself but the depo can affect different people in different ways. Spea to your doctor next time you see him/her.

No the only side effect I had was no periods (which was great). My sex drive was just as strong as ever while I was on depo!

Same here, I've been on depo all the time in between having children, for 18 years. the thing is that i'm not prepared to start having periods again, cos i've been without them for so long, and i'm okay otherwise. the docs keep a check on me, but it can lead to osteoperosis, and i've got to go and have a bone scan as i've been on it for so long, but I can live with that.

My wife takes Depo, and her loss of sex drive only lasts about 3 days after her shot, then, watch out, she is very horny, because she knows she can't get pregnant.

Hope this helps.

Better start building up yor bones as well - cos depo causes bone loss / Osteoporosis.

After being off the Depo shot for awhile you will know it was zapping your hormones. I noticed such a difference as my shot wore off, and all my feelings resurfaced, I'd forgotten what it was like to crave sex like a physical need. When I was scheduled to get another shot; I didn't go.
