I once read that some organization was protesting lobster trapping in Maine, but I would be willing to bet that those same protesters think abortion is ok. I can't work that out in my head.

Actually this is not a straw-man argument but it need not demonstrate inconstancy in the person. They could hold for instance (Incorrectly in my opinion) that the foetus is not yet a living organism and therefore is not yet possessed of those rights that they afford all life and which the lobsters therefore possess.

A straw-man argument is one in which you present your opponents argument in a form where it is much weaker than it need be, perhaps by omitting some crucial point or by misconstruing the argument. Then like a straw-man would be it is easier to knock down.

I would protect animals from cruelty; but I've also owned animals and had them spayed/neutered, because I didn't want them to breed.

A woman has a choice about continuing a pregnancy. If she doesn't want to be pregnant, then she has a right to a safe medical treatment to alleviate the condition.

There have been 43 million legal terminations in the US since the 70s. If they'd all gone to term, our population would be 12% higher than it is now, and we'd all be suffering the consequences. Would you have adopted some of those children? No, I didn't think so. In fact the latest census shows only 1.8 million adoptive families in the country - so they'd each have to have adopted 20 children over the last 30 years to give these children a real home.

Think it through - we can't as a society afford to have every pregnancy go to term.

That is why kook fringe groups like PETA (probably the group you're thinking of) are never taken seriously by anyone but the most kook fringe of society.

Yeah, where is the ACLU since they defend anyone - I guess they draw the line here, figures, it's just insignificant life to them.
