wmiprvse.exe is a system file that WIndows XP has to have in order to run. Normally the file is located in the Windows (or WinNT) directory in the system32 directory.

If your wmiprvse.exe is located elsewhere on your computer, then you may have a spyware program running. There are several that use that filename because the real wmiprvse.exe is a service that you do not want to stop on your computer.

Recommend that you download and run a couple of good anit-spyware programs. My favorties (both free at download.com) are Ad-Aware and Skybot Seek&Destroy. Between them, they should remove any spyware that is using a fake wmiprvse.exe file and free up your computer.
