What is the normal mileage for breaking in a new car?

I just bought a 2007 Ford Escape, and I am leaving for a road trip this weekend, is this bad for a new car.

Well, I would say 12,000 miles will get you broken into a car.

You don't have to do anything special. Just drive it normal and do your first oil change at 1500 miles. Then 3-months or 3000 miles after that and you will be OK.

5000 miles... vary your speed... don't just run at 65 the whole time. This will help 'break it in' properly...
