I'm going to Greece in 2008 and need to know when and how to start planning.

Your best values will be in small independent accommodations that take bookings for one season at a time. No need to contact before January of your year.
Also the ferry companies are making many changes; they are not publishing schedules more than a month before the season.
Who knows what Olympic Airlines/Airways will be doing next month.
Search, read and day dream anytime but travel in Greece needs to be flexible. Don't try and pin it down in advance.

As a travel agent, I would start planning now...the more time planning the quicker the trip will be less on your pockets.

well,
have you already got a hotel/car rental/plane tickets/etc.?
if so your good to go, otherwise, you can start looking now!

-also you ight want to look for places to visit dependin on why you are going, business?Vacation?etc.?

-have fun
-its never to early to start planning and thats only about a year and a half away

It depends on what you want to do, the places you want to visit, the time you want to visit...

If you gave some more information, we could give you some more feedback. However the rule is one: the sooner, the better! (and the cheaper, too!)...
