The death penalty is for the worst of the worst. We don't want those people out mixing with other members of society. So I guess someone would say imprision them for LIFE. Nothing is for life, you have criminals that get life sentences and then due to overcrowding they are released on parole and go out and commit another crime. Not to mention, I don't believe that the money that we work for and the government takes from us (taxes) should be used to house people who have absolutely nothing to contribute to society. Not to mention they don't have the daily struggle of working in order to support their own needs. They get 3 hots and a cot and don't do anything for it. Meanwhile you have over 800000 homeless people who don't even get that! Why should someone who has committed a crime have a better standard of living than someone who is having a hard time in their life.

Arguments in Favor of Death Penalty:

Rid the world of criminals and repeat offenders
Save the tax payers money by freeing up prison space
The offender can not repeat his crime
You are putting him out of the misery of Prison (it is hell)
You are releasing his family from dead weight (debt, stigma)
You are proving BIG Government can control us
You are helping keep other People from commiting CRIMES
You are eliminating jobs for Probation Officers/Prison Guards/
hense saving money.
We solve over-population problems (get rid of scum)
You send his SOUL home to be with God

Hope this helps. I do not believe in the Death Penalty as God should serve the punishment not us. But I tried to think on the flip side of the coin. Good luck

While I am usually against state sponsored murder, some offenses are just too heinous and deserve death. Any form of rape, intentional murder or crime against a child are such crimes.

Sadly, people do more time in jail for drugs, shoplifting and other offenses, while child rapists routinely receive less than ten years. Then they clog up the civil system by idiotic Attorney Generals attempting to have them civilly committed. If their crime was met with either life in jail or death, then no re-offenders would occur.

I'd go into detail and cite cases, but that would require work, and I am simply tossing my knowledge and thoughts into the arena.

Having a death penalty removes the liklihood that a particular person will repeat a particular crime. The problem I have with the death penalty as it's currently employed is that it's way too drawn out and way to humane to serve as any kind of deterrant. I suppose that this lethal injection thing is meant to spare the witnesses but it also doesn't deter would-be capital offenders from committing capital crimes.

If executions were done in a timely manner and publicised, it might work but the way it's done now, it serves no purpose and is a waste of emotions.

The death penalty is appropriate if the judgment is that the culprit, by committing the crime, has effectively surrendered his humanity. In that case, the death penalty is analogous to putting down a dangerous animal. Was the death penalty appropriate for McVeigh [Oklahoma city bomber]? I thiink so.

The death Penalty is the ultimate penalty for the ultimate crime. Why, if you brutally kill another human being, should you be allowed to live. I don't buy this being kept in prison is worse than death. You still get to see your loved ones, you can watch T.V., listen to music and it takes 20 years to get put to death. I say upon conviction, you get one appeal and that's it. 60 days max for an appeal. If you kill someone you forfeit your right to live. plain and simple.

The punishment must fit the crime. The death penalty is the ultimate punishment, and it should be reserved for only the worst crime, pre-meditated murder. It is not meant to be a deterrent to crime. Don't argue that, because it clearly is not a deterrent. However, you should argue that for society to have faith in our system, there must be justice. Justice means that the punishment fits the crime. A murderer should be put to death, not get life in prison.

actually, its cheaper to not use the death penalty, because the courts don't suck up millions of dollars in trial fees, and appeals. (which in turn sucks tax payers dollars up, cuz the convicts aren't going to have the money) It also give people a chance to get off if they were innocent...after all, you'd be surprised how many "mistakes" we make a year, luckily we catch most of them before it's too late.

It seems that most people are against capital punishment; that is, until one of their loved ones fall prey to one of the many repeat offenders that are incarcerated and then freed to kill yet again. Those who have shown no mercy for the life of others should get no mercy for themselves.
