My sister found a box of tampons in my room, I don't know why she goes through my stuff. My mom never has taken the time to explain anything to her, and she asked what they were for. How do I explain to her what they are for?

I am assuming she is too young to know what they are. Tell her that they are somethings women use and one day you'll have to use them. Say every women has a cycle every month and one day you will. These (tampons) are used to control them. If she says where do they go? Then say when your cycle starts I'll let you know.

Although I'm sure your intelligent enough to educate your sister about woman hood.

You SHOULD NOT explain womanhood to your sister. Now I know you may wonder why. Out of respect for your Mother you shouldn't tell her.

True, these are the facts of life, and she will learn it one day on her own. However that is for your Mom/Dad to decide? Think of it this way, and I'm not trying to sound like a brat, if you had children (really think about this - you're a mom responsible for EVERYTHING in their life) I don't think you would want someone telling your child something you don't think they're ready to know.

And none of us can tell if she's ready to know about this or not, what her age is doesn't matter - it's her mentality. So I suggest you say something open ended such as - These are things I need because I'm a woman, and if you want to know more ask Mom because she's better at these things that I am.

Hey it might be a lie or it might sound lame but that's what you should do. The choice however is yours, and good luck with everything.

Depending on her age, just be honest with her. If your mom didn't tell you about it, then she probably won't tell her, so be an awesome big sis and explain to her what they are for. And make sure to tell her that when she gets her first period that it is okay to talk to you or ask you for help in choosing the right protection for her.

Tell your mom to buy her the book "the care and keeping of me" from the American Doll makers.

And its your moms job to tell her not yours. But if your mom wont tell her, someone needs to
