Do people understand the consequences of losing or "cutting and running"?

Iran will take over the oilfields in the south and the rest will split into a collection of terrorist spawning rogue states.

We need 500,000-750,000 troops on the ground ASAP to guarantee victory.

I think the draft should be reinstituted, but not for the reasons you are putting forth. All American citizens should be required to serve their country in some capacity after finishing high school for a period of two years. If it isn't the military it could be Homeland Security, or some other entity associated with government service. I think that Americans in the past understood and appreciated their freedoms more when the children of Presidents and politicos were some of the first to enlist. Back then the question of who was not rich or poor and serving wasn't such a point of debate . Too many of our young people have no interest in their country's politics and government. I think it would give them a better appreciation of what they enjoy as Americans and give them a head start on becoming responsible adults. I have a son who is 16 and I still support this idea.

If only 10% of the folks who supported the invasion and ongoing occupation would actually join the services, we would have 5-7 million service members. No draft necessary.

SON FIRST THING FIRST CALM DOWN, THERE WONT BE ANY INVASION BY IRAN. RIGHT NOW THE US HAS MANY TROOPS TO COVER IRAQ AND HOPEFULLY NOT N. KOREA. AS FAR AS A DFAFT THERE WONT BE ONE UNLESS THE US HAS LOSS 75% OF ITS TROOPS. BESIDES THE US IS NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT IS ON THE GLOBAL WAR ON TERROISM, DONT FORGET ABOUT ALLIES AND THE UN

If there was a draft, maybe then our politicians would realize how out of control this war really is. They would have to watch their children get sent to Iraq.
