I have a close friend who would do anything for you. She is a very giving person. However, she always sees the glass as "half empty rather than half full." If I ask for her advise on anything, I know the negative comment will come out of her mouth first before she gives me a truthful answer. What makes people always be so negative all the time?

Probably because she has been through a lot. Sometimes life can be a disappointment for a lot of people. If you have nothing but bad things happen to you, or you've suffered through a lot of rejection for any reason it makes it very hard to see the "light at the end of the tunnel."
A lot of people see that "the glass is half empty glass or half full" as just a phrase that simplifies people's emotions into a black and white mind set. In reality, no two people are the same. Thus it becomes a gray area. She can't be but so negative if she's a giving person, as you say. Some could see the glass as neither as far as the saying goes. The glass is both.
