A cuckold (or cuck) is a married man with a sexually unfaithful. "Cuckold" is derived from the Old French for the Cuckoo bird, "Cocu" with the pejorative suffix -ald. The earliest written use of the Middle English derivation, “cokewold” occurs in 1250. The females of certain varieties of Cuckoo lay their eggs in other bird’s nests, freeing themselves from the need to nurture the eggs to hatching.
The term has acquired additional meanings within certain sub-cultures, referring to couples wherein the male wishes his wife to be a dominant female and for her to take on additional partners, while as a submissive male he enjoys being monogamous to her, or only becoming involved sexually when it is felt to be emotionally supportive of her and her lover, or remaining altogether chaste. A male with an underlying sexual desire to have his wife enjoy the possibility or actual practice of cuckoldry as an intrinsic part of their marriage may even be a distinct and specific sexual orientation that is somewhat unidentified.
Another reason for this is that besides the humiliation factor, cuckold fantasy almost always encompasses a strong desire to please their sexual partner. Although many females who participate in cuckolding enjoy or even initiate the cuckold fantasy, the majority of females usually have little desire for the fantasy themselves, instead participating primarily to satisfy the desires of their husbands.
