yeah, i had a crappy windows 2000 laptop, and without upgrading i put a card in the card slot and it was 2.0, but for desktops you can buy those cheap usb 2.0 pci cards.

Since USB2.0 is determined by the HARDWARE in your computer, not the service pack you are running, the question is impossible to answer. There is no software update (sp2 or anything else) that will turn a USB1.x port into a USB2.0 port.

You can purchase USB 2.0 cards for either desktops or laptop. The desktop card would go into one of the slots on the back of your computer and give you USB 2.0 without having to update to sp2. If it needs drivers they will come with the card. If you are running a laptop, they make cards that go into the PC card slot on your laptop to give you a USB 2.0 port. Normally the cards only give you want port, so you would probably want to purchase a USB hub to plug into the port to give you more ports.
