There are the likes of Pete Sampras, Steffi Graff, and so many others. In tennis, there seems to be a lot of individuals who have achieved such great feats, that it would simply be unfair to classify one as the greatest.

That said, I guess some just has to be/would have been better than their counterparts. In this era, Pete Sampras might just be considered the best. Also watch the young tennis player-Roger Federer, what he is doing is quite remarkable and I wouldn't be surprised he eventually surpasses (all) the records set by previous tennis players, Rafael Nadal is a good player, but I think he might not reach the level R. Federer will attain, although he started early, while the former started (fairly) late.

Sorry about the long essay, just felt like getting my observation across to other persons, which I'm assuming some people will agree with . I am an ardent tennis fan and hope Mr Federer lives up to expectations in the next tennis season

I beleive the greatest tennis player of all time was Steffi Graf and very close to her, there was Pistol Pete.

Now, watching Federer go, by the time he's done almost certainly he will crush both these legends and establish himself as the greatest.

Come on, the guy is flawless and if it hasn't been for Rafa Nadal, tha man would only have defeat the entire year. Aside form the fact that Nadal can only beat him in hard turf

So I think even if he still has some way to go. Feberer willbe recognized as teh best ever

It's hard to pick against Roger Federer. At the rate he's going....he's unbelievable and well on his way to being the best of all time.

He has won nine Grand Slam men's singles titles in 30 appearances. He is the only player to have won both the Wimbledon and U.S. Open singles titles in three consecutive years (2004-2006).
He has been ranked number 1 continuously since February 2, 2004. His ranking points lead is enough to ensure that in February 2007, he will break the existing consecutive weeks record for being the top ranked male player.

Other top choices, in my opinion would be: Pete Sampras, Jimmy Conners and Ivan Lendl

In 3-4 years, I'd be surprised if there weren't a consensus for Roger Federer. It might not be shocking if, in 7 years, there's a case for Rafael Nadal (who does, after all, have a head start, having done more than Federer had at Nadal's age).

It's easier to pronounce in doubles, oddly enough. Men's doubles - John McEnroe, though I suspect the best team would be Australian or French. Women's doubles - Martina Navratilova in a cakewalk. Mixed doubles - Margaret Court, who swept the four majors in mixed seven and five years before her Grand Slam in singles.

Roger Federer. No explanation necessary if you've been following the game for decades. We are lucky to be in a generation to experience this. He'll be around for 5-7 years (and on top of his game for 2-3 years) more so if you have a chance to go see him live; make an effort!

Best Sampras . although you can start making a case for Federer.
Mt favorite of all tome is an Aussie named Patric Rafter. Serve and vollier, beat Sampras twice to win the US open.
