Thomas Jefferson

He wrote the declaration of Independence. A document whose principles have lasted for over 200 years. These founding principles are the best part of this country.

He did not pursue any personal glory and only served his country because he was asked to.

He wrote The Missouri Compromise which set the course to end slavery.

He was a man who never stopped thinking. He was not just a farmer but also a scientist, an inventor and a philosopher.

James Maddison: Fourth President (1809-1817) Democrat-Republican (Democrat) 2nd President to reside, from start to finish, in the White House. President during the War of 1812, when Great Britain invaded Washington DC, and was in the same term repeled from the city. (The only other US President to preside under similar circumstances was Abraham Lincoln, when the Confederates, under Gen R.E. Lee stormed DC, and held the Army Armory and Naval Shipyards, before proceeding further north.) Maddison was a father of the Revolution, and helped in the forming of the US Constitution.

Thomas Jefferson Third President -Yeoman Farmer
1801-1809
Born: April 13, 1743 in Albemarle County, Virginia
Died: July 4, 1826 in Monticello in Virginia

Jefferson also served as the wartime Governor of Virginia (1779–1781), first United States Secretary of State (1789–1793), and second Vice President (1797–1801).

"I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."

Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence was this nation's greatest champion of representative democracy and the rights of man. Although he had a lisp, Jefferson was our most eloquent spokesman on the founding principles of American self-government. As he himself said,

"I know my own principles to be pure and therefore am not ashamed of them. On the contrary, I wish them known and therefore willingly express them to everyone. They are the same I have acted on from the year 1775 to this day, and are the same, I am sure, with those of the great body of the American people."

A polymath, Jefferson was an agriculturalist, horticulturist, architect, archaeologist, paleontologist, author, inventor, and the founder of the University of Virginia.

President John F. Kennedy welcomed forty-nine Nobel Prize winners to the White House in 1962, saying, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent and of human knowledge that has ever been gathered together at the White House -- with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

I'm glad no one said G W.
Clinton, he knew diplomacy. From what I've read though, I guess FDR did a lot to put this country where it is today, well, where it was 6 years ago anyway. We'll see if it doesn't all get undone soon enough.

Ronald Reagan, Republican
He loved his country like no other president I ever knew of. He didn't take crud off of anyone. He smiled when we needed him to, he made us laugh when we were tired, and scared, like when Libyan terroists hijacked American's and other's on airplanes. He was also governor of California.

Reagan. Republican. 1981-1988

Carter had ruined our economy and our relationships with all the Middle eastern countries. Reagan brought us back to prosperous times. We had lower interest rates (by ten-fold at least), he got our hostages back, he rebuilt our defense, etc.
