If you do not have an attorney and an agent represent you, you are not even going to get a chance to present your idea to a studio. The studios get about 3000 scripts everyday, yes, everyday! They make an average of 20 movies a year. Look at the odds. They also have a stipulation that they will not accept unsolicited manuscripts (meaning you can't send it in yourself, you have to have an agent or lawyer submit it for you) If you still think you have the greatest idea for a movie ever, write a treatment (a basic 2-3 page synopsis) and take this to the Writers Guild of America and pay $20 to have it registered. This will HELP protect your intellectual property rights. You can also copyright your entire script. Notarizing your material will not help you in any way and if someone with more money and better lawyers wants to steal your script, they will and say to you: "sue me", and that is what you will have to do. Hollywood is the most corrupt, backstabbing, unethical business in the world, worse than arms dealing and drug dealing. If someone wants your script, they will steal it, period. Borat was stolen! Find a good entertainment attorney willing to represent you, this is the only way to even slightly protect yourself

If you have a movie idea you need a script. Once you finsh the script get an agent. (anyone around hollywood or studio city) the agent then will pass the script to production companys. If one of the companys like the movie script then it will be picked up. Once a movie script is done make sure you have it notarized. Doing this will insure that if someone does take your idea you can sue them. Because if they have a script like yours and it is notarized the date will show it was after your date and if is not notarized well then u can sue them for all there worth. Hope this helps
P.S. I used to work for WB

One way is to get your idea down on paper in some specific format and then copyright it so that you can contact any company that produces movies and send your idea along with a copy of your copyright.

Another way is to let an attorney handle the matter and contact a producer concerning the idea allowing the attorney to represent you in the matter.

Visit this website. I think it might help you.

You could also visit the official website of the company you would like to see your movie becoming a part of. Ex. Disney, Universal Studios, etc...and email them telling them that you've got a great idea and would like a meeting with them.

Wherever you live, why don't you look online or in the phonebook and see if there is anyone around you in the industry to talk to about it and learn what further steps you need to take! :)
