Probably not. I'd consider him black, as I suspect he would. After all, what you are calling "3/4 black," meaning he had one white grandparent, is probably a lot less than that. I doubt whether his three black grandparents were pure bloods. There are so few pure bloods in America, or anywhere outside of Africa.

It may have been relevant in colonial times, when mixing was still pretty new, but nowadays, there's all sorts of blood in all sorts of veins. Just appreciate a person for who he is, and don't try to be figuring his "pedigree" as if he was a dog or a horse!

Yes, mix is mix regardless of what's in the mix. Even the Native American's consider a mere 1/16th to be enough to allow you to be considered part of the nation.

If someone's 3/4 white, they're white. Technically they'd be mixed if they wanted to dive into specifics, and if we go back far enough...almost all of us are mixed. During times of slavery people would still make a big fuss over a white person if they had 1/4 black blood- they were called quadroons.

They are mixed but they wouldn't be mulatto they would be a quadraroon. being mixed has hit it's limitations atleast to me when it is less than 1/8.

I would still call them black though because that is most of what they are.

Yes. This person is still mixed. I think the term used to describe such a person during slavery was griffe or zambo. I think that Spanish and Brazilian culture still use terms to describe this mixture.

I would not consider them anything but human. Race is an arbitrary classification. If the topic came up, I would allow them to tell me what they thought of themselves.

Way too much labeling in the world.
We'ld be better off with less of it, IMHPOV.

Peace to all,

;-)

yes, and just so you know this person should be proud of who they are. white is white and black is black when you put them together you have mixed them and there isnt any reason to be ashamed in it.

lol....yea. NO ONE is 100% anything anymore. Unless you were born on the continent of Africa & your family lineage has never been broken and brought over to the US. I'm black, Puerto Rican, Native American & French. There's no telling what else is thrown in there!!
