I don't think an insane person knows they are insane.
I don't agree with that they think everyone else is insane either.
The insane person has crazy thoughts...such as.."Gee I feel stuffy so I'm going to air out my buttcrack and shave my testacles in the parking lot of walmart today."
to the insane person this would be a totally rational thought and he would probably act on it.

Legally, no. Being insane means you are not responsible for your actions because you are not aware of your wrong-doing.
People would think someone insane when they deviate radically from the norm. Technically, when a person commits a crime and they rationalize it as doing the victim a favor; releasing their demons, putting them out of their misery, etc.
If a person were to commit a crime knowing that what they were doing was wrong and did it anyway then that person would be crazy, but not insane.

Yes, i think some know it and like living the action of insanity, blindly searching for the feeling of being different, unusual and grabbing attention ..

On the contrast, in most of the severe and complicated cases, the patient does not recognise he's insane or thinking abnormally .. i agree with the previous answerers that they feel everyone around them is very foolish and stupid.

I think that if someone is insane they are in there own reality so what they are thinking makes sense to them. If they know that there perception of things is warped no one knows. They might notice that they are different if there observant enough.

Sometimes they do know it. It depends on the disorder they have. Insanity isn't just one type of mental illness.

by insane, i assume you mean lost touch with reality, so in that situation, no i dont imagine they would,,,,, i think some, who are on the road to recovering or learning to manage their condition,,, have times when they know they have lost/or are losing it,, and then they sometimes give in to it, or are able to pull out of it and get help,,,,,, its most encouraging when someone can call their therapist/counselor, and say i know im going nuts, ive packed my suitcase for the hospital !

If they're aware of their own insanity, they wouldn't be that insane now, would they?

Here's the real problem with your question...first you need to provide an accurate, objective and clinical definition of insanity.
