They are two separate organizations with a single root. To make a long story short, our (Girl Scout) founder got the idea from the founders of Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts are 5 years older than Girl Scouts. They are celebrating 100 years, we are celebrating 95 years.

No. There's no connection between the 2 organizations. The same school, church, etc. may sponsor both a boy scout and girl scout troop or pack, however. Also, at the teenage level, girls can join the BSA as a Venture Scout or Explorer Scout. Venture scouts are oriented around high adventure. Explorers are more career oriented.
