Could you have a goat as an inside pet? Could you teach it verbal commands, and stuff like that, or can they only live outside? Thanks in advance.

Goats are great pets. I have 2 wethers, a pygmy and a Nubian. We raised the Nubian in the house and bottle fed him. He was kenneled at night and was free to roam during the day when someone was in the house. He was little trained and everything. But after saying all that, I think it is best to keep your goats outside. While the Nubian was a baby he wasn't too hard to manage and he wasn't eating roughage yet. Once they start on hay and grain they will eat paper, cardboard, plywood, etc. So if you have things lying around the house of that sort..... they will get them and destroy them.

I have a 6mo. old billy goat as a pet. Actually I like to think of him as a pet for my mini horse. He is a great pet, and has a very cute personality. However they are not for everyone. Goats need alot of stimulation and space, they could not be kept inside (and there is also the fact that they can't be house broken and leave little turdletts everywhere). They are also not good for children of a young age. They like to push and butt as a game and this can hurt and scare a small child. You can train them not to butt you but anything they see as a lesser animal or a playmate they will butt and push. They will do this usually whether they are culled or not or whether they're a wether or a billy. They can be alot of fun or a pain in the butt depending on your set up.

Goats can be very destructive and messy. They are also very social animals. (I don't think you want a heard of goats in your apartment.) Tempers also get in the way. Goats may only obey certain commands when they feel like. I have been in a goat pen before, and their pellets get everywhere, and they stink (the goats and the pellets). And lastly, what would people think if you walked out with a goat on a leash??

Goats are very destructive animals. They have a temper. Think of them like a cat. They will respond to certain commands----when they feel like it. But when they don't....Not a good idea to have as a inside pet. Strictly for outside. They will destroy your home if given the chance.

I think it would be a good idea to keep them outside because they're used to living on the hills. A goat sounds like a cool pet to me!!

Goats can be litter box trained! A Pygmy goat would make a fun pet, but I think they would climb on top of everything and butt small children, so think about it.

My husband has had goats before and he says they are incredibly messy, smell horrible (and he likes animals) and eat everything except what they're supposed to. In short, not good for much! I'm sure they all have their own individual personalities and do cute stuff sometimes, but they aren't for everyone.
