Ores, yes. But platinum may also be found as pure metal in streams, the same as how gold is sometimes found. At the time of Spanish conquest, the inhabitants of what is now Colombia were using platinum found this way.

like most base minerals, in ore form. It looks like ground, but when its put through a smelter (Very hot melting oven) the platinum metal is melted out first. Thats cause the melting point of the surrounding soil is a lot higher than the metal. Dunno what colour it is, but iron ore is a reddish brown colour and copper ore is blueish green.
