You are feeling the fluid shifting in your middle ear. Its the part in your head that senses motion. It "feels" when you accelerate, and decelerate in the three axes of your body and it gives your brain the information so that it can compensate for balance so you dont fall on your keyster!

It can be played tricks on though, as a pilot, we experiece g-forces that lie to us about our position and we have to rely on our instruments.. and we have to discipline ourselves to NOT trust our middle ear.. that could lead to a syndrome called vertigo, and its deadly to a pilot if left unchecked.

Coz when we descend along with the lift or car, even our body descends but the fluids (gastric juice etc...) descend lately, creating a vaccum sort of feeling. And come back to normal after some time.

Its like g-force.
