I feel terrible for what African Americans endured during the civil rights movement and times of Jim Crowe Laws, but honestly how is it fair that caucasian people have to endure the declines from colleges and universities because we are white and a minority has to be legally accepted into universities before the white people if the SAT score and GPA are the same. I do not find this fair. I work just as hard. When I apply to graduate school, I'm putting other on my application, because my ancestors are from Portugal. I'm tired of being discriminated because of being "White". Seriously, affirmative action is racist, unjust and adding more fuel to the fire. Does anyone agree with me?

it plainly is racist. it is the very definition. MLK would be appalled.
questions of race should not appear on any application for anything. affirmative action has been quite detrimental to blacks as a whole. it expects black to achieve less and they have come to expect it from themselves and comply. it is high time that MLKs dream come true and that such institutionalized racism be done away with.

Yes, affirmative action is kind of racist. It has been taken too far.

Even just asking people which race they are on an application form is racist. This stuff shouldn't matter! People should be hired/accepted into schools based on their qualifications (skills/grades), not color. I understand that affirmative action is an attempt to increase equality and give minority groups more opportunities, but what it really does is actually the opposite, it puts one race behind others. That's not equality, that's discrimination.

They should focus on equalizing elementary schools and high schools and make them meet a certain country-wide standard so that kids get the same opportunities no matter if they're living in poor neighbourhoods or rich ones and no matter what race they are. Then when they apply to get into schools of higher education the students with the best grades should get in first, regardless of race or wealth. That would be fair, that would be real equality.

Affirmative action isn't racist. As a matter of fact it's probably one of the least racist actions this country has ever performed.

Affirmative action isn't about slavery, that was resolved with the Civil War.

It's not about not being able to vote, that was resolved with the Voting Rights Act.

AA deals with the continued systemic discrimination against WOMEN and people of color.

For example, SAT scores are sometimes lower for Black students. Is it because we are inferior or because our schools are not as good as those is suburban America? Is it because we can't all afford prep courses? Is it because a lot of the time we only have enough money for one go at the test?

AA takes this into account. If you attend the best schools, take prep courses, use prep software at home (you have a computer-wow), and take the test multiple times if you need to, for course your SAT scores are going to be higher. If not, you don't need to be in college.

Finally, so what your family is from Portugal, you still benefit from all the privileges of being in the majority in the US

Exactly what discrimination have you experienced because of affirmative action? Not much, if any. And what "declines" have whites experienced in higher education because of affirmative action? Absolutely none. You're just using it as a scapegoat because you're afraid you won't get into the grad school of your choice.

It's interesting that you're outraged over affirmative action, but have nothing at all to say about legacy admission preferences, a de facto affirmative action program for well off whites at a great many schools. Since many schools barred black students a generation ago, there are very few black children of alums to be able to benefit from legacy admissions. And even if there were, why should someone get into school easier just because their parent went there? Why aren't you seething about how unfair that practice is? And are you also outraged about the use of regional considerations for admission? The top selective schools routinely admit students from the South with lower scores than students from the Northeast in order to ensure regional representation from all over the country. And far more "athletic" admissions at the most selective schools go for sports like fencing, riding and crew than to basketball or football. Who do those preferences benefit? Overwhelmingly whites. Where's your outrage about that?

And you're wrong about any university "legally" having to practice affirmative action. Most do it because they recognize the value of a diverse campus.

You are so typical with your selective outrage. There are lots of preferences in admissions. Always have been. But while professing how you're sorry about past racsim against blacks, you seeth not against all preferences, but only those that don't disproportionately benefit whites.

that's genuine hassle-free, if me and a white guy of equivalent qualification pass right into a room and the corporation is white (that's the case ninety seven% of the time) ninety seven% of the time the black guy won't get the activity with the aid of fact white human beings only like white human beings greater effective. that may no longer constantly the case yet while a white guy sees a black and a white guy he knows no longer something approximately the two he will oftentimes choose the different white. this might nicely be genuine in each and every race as you element out, yet i do no longer discover that extremely genuine among the black race. especially with the aid of fact maximum black human beings have a team of white friends while maximum white human beings have a million black chum. Plus black all of us isn't racist like that in the time of favouring their very own race. seem on the history, has black people who run considerable agencies have all black workers or distinctive offices. Even adult men like Dr. dre hire rappers like eminem or jin, non black adult men. without affirmative action the only way for a black man or woman to get a job from a white corporation is to be ridculously over qualified, meaning that black human beings might desire to consistently settle for jobs under the place they might desire to be. this means that training is now no longer the super equalizer contained in the rustic and all of capitalism will become at destructive aspects once you have communities who're going to be maximum individuals (black and latin) who're habitually denied jobs they're qualified for. this means that they are going to say this methodology is broken and that they are going to start to seem someplace else as we've already seen those 2 communities are dispropotionately socialist than others. The purpose of affirmative action is to stay away from the latter yet greater importantly to get rid of itself. while blacks and whites are the two employed contained in the workplace, the races extremely white would be much less racists and we are able to get rid of affirmative action You do strengthen some intresting factors.

I have nothing against different races, but I do sympathize with you. Why can't we all just be equal? If African Americans can have BET (Black Entertainment Television) why can't white American's have White Television? Because that would be racist? I do think it's racist for other minorities to exclude the majority. But unfortunately, the government is so screwed up with being politically correct that all the lines have been too blurred to salvage them.

Affirmative action is racist. That is why individuals such as Bill Cosby decry it. Sammy Davis Jr. thought it was unjust. It was thought up by white Demorats hoping to buy Black votes. If ANY person qualifies, skin color should not matter.

Yes, Affirmative action is reversed discrimation.
I always hire based on qualifications, not color, and that is the way it should always be. No body should gain advantage based on creed, ethiticity, religion, or sex.
