www.secondlife.com is the web address.

It is basically a world online.. There are places you go that people create, everything from amusement parks, to zoos, to strip clubs and more. Basically, whatever you can imagine and put into code or build, you can create. Or, let someone else create, and you can buy them. Yes, lots of people make lots of real money on this game, whether it is making clothes for residents, or selling virtual real estate.

It is a computerized world. It's just like real life except you can be whoever you want and do just about whatever you want. It's not for everyone obviously. Some people love it (me) and some people don't. But there is no one thing in this world that makes everyone happy DUH... but anyway. You can buy virtual land with real cash.. People also make real cash on this game. You don't HAVE to buy land with cash you can play for free and get money from other residents and rent land with your lindens (second life money).. there are a million and one possibilities and ways to play for free.

I've been trying to get my head around it for weeks but can't seem to get passed a certain place! I must be doing something wrong. What is so interesting about Second Life, is the move into cyber. People are really starting to live their lives inside these machines. Second Life is a real community with real commerce. People are actually making a living there. I wonder if eventually, our lives will be lived entirely inside machines ....

Yes its an online video game community thing. Like the sims but you play the role of one character who you can customize etc like the sims. You can buy a house, fly, meet people, chat to people like on msn, buy cloths go out make clubs etc. Most things thay you can do in real life. Hence the name 2nd life. Never played it though. Dont have the time. Also you have to pay for things like cloths, house etc

I saw that too. I don't understand why anyone would want to play that pretend game, when you could do it for real by "playing" on eBay. Buying and selling low cost items on eBay would be far more exciting, and if you make a profit you get real money.

There are plenty of chat rooms to meet people in, and they are free too.

I dunno, I played it for like an hour but it was filled with virtual strip clubs, and some of the textures and models didn't load properly and it was laggy. Stupid rich people apparently spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy in game money to buy houses/businesses or items.

Here's my thought...why spend real money on virtual stuff when you could spend the same (or less) money on real stuff?
