i know what babyshowers are for the baby but is it wrong to think that a mother should get something that caters to just them. I know that the gifts are for you but is more catered to your baby is it selfish to want something that is just for you. This is just question i was just thinking. not my own personal views.

In my opinion all the gifts I received at my baby shower were for me as well as my baby also. The gifts you receive at a baby shower are to help you out with things that are needed when you have your first child. The gifts you receive are 1) saving you a pretty good amount of money, since you aren't having to go purchase the items out of your own pocket, because it gets very expensive, 2) the gifts you receive are sometimes a luxury for you to have to assist you with your child but not necessarily a necessity, for example a stroller you don't have to have one but it sure beats carrying your child around where ever you go, especially for long periods of time, some mothers aren't so fortunate and they don't have a stroller. However, a lot of the times you also receive gifts at your baby shower that are just for you, yourself. For example a bath and bodyworks set. Your baby can not use these things at all so they are for you. Many times guests also buy gifts like these. I received a few gifts like that. I don't know if selfish is the term I would use but it definitely in my opinion isn't the way a baby shower should be thought of! After all you have your birthday to get gifts for yourself at and your baby doesn't get a gift then right? Hope this answers your question!

When i think of a baby shower i think of things for the baby. When i had my first baby shower that is what it was for the baby. I didnt mind its not like i would fit into those little clothes anyway lol. Seriously i wouldnt feel bad if no one got me anything after all its more free stuff to be spent on the baby that i dont have to buy.

I don't think a baby shower is just for the baby - a lot of pregnant ladies get gift for themselves. Plus, the mother carries the baby for 9 months she deserve something for herself. Maybe a nice spa visit - lol.

Baby showers are to get stuff you need for your baby, however, a lot of people Gave me something for both at my shower. I didn't except it but was very excited. One lady gave me PJs another gave me some body lotions and bubble bath, someone else gave me Foot Massage stuff for my Husband to massage my feet. All of these things were in addition to a baby gift (they weren't very expensive, but they meant a lot to me). So since then I try to get something for mommy and baby when I go to a shower.

the baby shower not only welcomes the new baby it also congratulates the mother.

Yes its okay to get something just for the mother but it still should be baby related - like bubble bath and a warm comfy bathrobe so when she does get a little time to soak in the tub she can enjoy herself.

Baby showers have been around for years. It helps the new parents to get ready for their baby. I love baby and bridal showers. It's fun to have a bunch of ladies get together to eat, visit, and enjoy watching the gifts be opened. Love it!!!

baby showers are for mom and child. sure you'll get gifts for baby but i also think its important to get things for mom too. it sounds strange but with all the baby talk....sometimes the mom feels left out and gets depressed even. :)

I had my baby shower 2 weekends ago, a friend of mine got me some honey bubble bath just for me, and it was very appreciated. Its nice to get the mother something to make her feel good too.

When you are pregnant, your main focus is health, trying to get enough sleep and all those doctor appointments. Most of us were still working too hard...in my case.

People surround you ...sometimes...with lovely presents and a time to wish you well.....I've been to some and it's a show....not real.

....I had 1 shower..but my daughter didn't make it...so I donated most of the presents...........heartbroken mom.
