Take a damp wash cloth and clean out the insides of the leather shoes until they are perfectly clean, you can put a little soap on the cloth if you like or a little saddle soap but dont have the cloth too wet. let the shoes dry and you will have a good clean pair of shoes. This will not harm your leather. You can clean the outside of your shoes in the same manner but after they are dry, put a good coat of polish on them, and put a good shine to them. I know this worked for me for well over two decades while serving in the army.
