The best time to start the pill is in the first 5 days of your period. Starting off-cycle, like you propose, seems to make the side effects more pronounced, and may make you more inclined to spot.

Personally I wouldn't suggest it, since you don't know what your reaction to the pill or to skipping your period will be. Just personal experience... it's not a health risk. If you already have a prescription for the pill, inside each packet is a little instruction sheet which tells you that brand's particular suggestions for starting the pill if you don't start it on the first day of your period.

And FYI, if you go ahead and start the pill midcycle, you are NOT protected against pregnancy for at least the first week, so use backup contraception if you're having sex.

In my opinion, I think you should just stick it out. Why do you want to control it? Like, are your periods really irregular?? Either way, you'll get your period either way during your vacation, and it often takes up to three months before the hormones actually start working, so it probably wouldn't even help you out. I hope this helps.... :)
