Sarah Hale is responsible for Thanksgiving being a National Holiday. She petitioned four presidents before Lincoln agreed with her and decreed it to be a holiday.

Abe Lincoln set the last Thursday in November to be Thanksgiving but sometimes there were five weeks in November. FDR was the one to set it to be the 4th Thursday in November.

G. Washinton proclaimed Thanksgiving in 1777 but it was in December for a long time

Then a Mrs. Hale kept lobbying the govenment for a national holiday of Thanks and Lincoln made Thanks a national holiday
