In argentina's case, the rise of the left is due to a decade of right wing corrupt politicians and failed policies that has lead the country to total bankruptcy and social chaos. Particularly among the right wing corrupt politicians is "Menem" president of Argentina for 9+ years, today in exile in Chile, and accused on arms & drug trafficking + conspiracy with Middle East terrosits on the Buenos Aires bombing in 1996 + corruption with theaft of 200+ millions of US dollars.
So, as you can see, turning to the left is just the "natural pendulum" effect. However, Krishner, current Argentinian president is no "clean slate" and has some skeletons in his closet as well. Eventhough, relatively to other politicians, he is much cleaner and a safer president.
As for Uruguay, Peru, Brasil, Venezuela & Bolivia turning left... well, it is pretty much, again, for the same political swing: they were ruled by the right all of during the 90's...
nothing to worry about. It should swing back and forth for decades to come... Unless we have a coup.
