*I do not necessarily agree with this question, but I have to argue this point in a debate for class. I need some useful information.

That reminds me of the time in school when I was assigned to debate against gun control - I believed in gun control and also really did not know how to debate and when I got up there it was a disaster.

Some of the arguments people make (that I also don't necessarily believe in):

They've already been here paying taxes and putting money into the economy.
The price of lettuce and other goods would go way up if companies had to pay a fair wage to legal Americans.
Their kids were born here so it's cruel to separate them from their children.
They work hard and do jobs Americans won't (don't believe this.)
Big corporations make more money if they can get cheap labor.
In a global economy companies need cheap labor and if they can't find it here they will just outsource it anyway.
These people are poor and desperate - shouldn't the most prosperous nation on earth help them?

a few points to consider for your discussion:
1. What the living condition of the places they came from?
2. What opportunities are there (departing place) for education and improving economically.
3. Is it a war zone? Is being there an actual hazard to life?
4. Is medical treatment assessable?
Many illegals who live here, pay at least retail taxes. They work many of the jobs no American would want to do. A System should be put in place that doesn't make it so hard for the poorest immigrants to become citizens. Have we become so lofty and prideful that we have forgotten that most of us are ancestrally from somewhere else? Lets make sure that we aren't condemning some poor soul to certain death because there is a clerical error... unless we have truly become a society that doesn't care. It's just isn't true that there isn't enough room or funds, some of us are becoming increasing greedy and elitist -- sharing is simply not an option.

Fear has always been the current that feeds discrimination. What are we really afraid of?

They do not pay taxes. C'mon, think about it. If the company is hiring them illegally, then WHY would they tax them and REPORT it? They may take the money out, but they surely DO NOT let the government know that they're hiring illegally. My goodness.....

I'm also pretty sick of this "undocumented worker" BS. They are ILLEGAL ALIENS. ILLEGAL......Undocumented sounds as if they've done NOTHING wrong.

As far as the kids go that were born here, we're not asking them to leave thier children here. Were asking them to TAKE THEM WITH THEM!!!!!!

It is a HUGE burden on our economy, and if it takes me an extra 2 dollars per head of lettuce to pay for higher labor, so be it.

Listen, it's not the aliens fault that they are working for these wages. It is ours. We need to stand up to these companies and demand that they start paying folks a decent wage - legally. Strike, walk out, whatever it takes. And if they outsource? STOP BUYING THIER GOODS. Simple as that. Stand up people - it's time to send them a message.

well I'm a Hispanic and from my point of view all this immigrants are a bunch of s h i t. they are in a different country not their own, they can not come here and have rigths that no where else in the world they are going to have, for example nationalists Mexicans, they are stupid, yeah they are so proud of their country but still they are here in US. messing the rest of us Hispanics that were born here. They can not ask for legalization if they came illegal, no where in the world are they going to ask rights in another country. If they want rights, why don't they go to their own country's government and try to make the situation better.

It's the wrong question. The right question is how severely should illegal immigrants be punished. Should they be summarily executed, or would a flogging and being branded on the forehead be sufficient for a first offence?

If they work hard and have no criminal record, then they are an asset to society, not a liability, and it would be more practical to keep them here. If that is not the case, then they shouldn't be allowed to stay.

One reason for them NOT to be allowed here, is the horrific crimes they commit. Murders, rapes, and theft. Illegals commit more crimes in the USA than American's do. I can't think of any reason they should stay. Here's a link for you.

They provide cheap labor that cannot be found elsewhere.

That was hard for me, because I don't agree either.

Simple. Corporations want them here. Cheap labor. You don't have to pay minimum wage to an undocumented worker.
