Don't stimulate your breasts.....this is probably what is causing you to continue to produce. For some women, even a little stimulation will keep them producing. Don't "check" to see if there is still milk.

Cabbage leaves worn in your bra may help to dry you up.

Decongestants may also help.

Wear nursing pads in your bra if you are still leaking. It will eventually stop on it's own if you are patient.

The prescription you are looking for is Cabergoline (trade name of Dostinex).

Cabergoline is a prolactin reducer. Prolactin is the chemical that causes your body to produce milk, so reducing this chemical helps stop breast milk production.

Side effects of this drug are: Unusual weakness or fatigue, nausea or vomiting, constipation, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, tingling or numbness sensation. There are others, but these are the most common.

Some birth control methods can also decrease the production of Prolactin.

My mom used to say when my milk came in, "ask your doctor for that little green pill and they'll be back to normal in a few hours" (!).

That's really discouraged these days, although as a mom of a 6 mo old I remember the pain of engorgement and the willingness to do anything to make it go away. It may not seem like it, but the worst is over in 48-72 hours.

I live in FL so I'm not sure if it differs from state to state... but I have 2 children. One is 12, the other is just 3 wks old. I was not given anything to dry up my milk. I was told they do not do that anymore. I was instructed to wear a snug fitting bra and take tylenol.

provide up the formulation and basically Breast-Feed...Get quite some relax...stay hydrated (8-10 TALL glasses of water daily) and R-E-L-A-X ! it relatively is not Hereditary...that's social...too many females are Conditioned and confident to have confidence that Breast-Feeding is SOOOOO complicated...it relatively is not! verify infant has 6-8 moist diapers an afternoon and relax....issues will develop.
